Kenya's new draft constitution states that " every adult has the right to marry a person of the opposite sex, based on the free consent of parties".
A couple of the same sex arranged to be married in the North coast of Mtwapa in Kenya a few months ago, when the police discovered this they were arrested treated as criminals. This is unfair, Kenya should allow people of the same sex to get married. The sentence for being gay is 14 years in jail but there is no penalty for being lesbian.
A gay man by the name of Alex (fake name to hide his identity) was interviewed in Nairobi and questioned on his lifestyle. Alex said that most gay's live double lives," there's the life you live with your straight friends and the life you live as a gay". He also mentioned that if his boss were to find out that he were gay he would be fired and his family would avoid him. Most people in Kenya believe homosexuality is a foreign culture and think its a sin to be gay. Many religions are also against same sex marriage such as Islam and Christianity.
This above picture shows which African countries allow same sex marriages.

Same sex marriege is not performed or permitted in England, however they are allowed to be together but are not allowed to be called husband and husband or wife and wife. People of same sex from different countries who wish to become a couple in the UK, must stay in Britain for at least 7 days prior and wait another 15 days before their partnership can be registered.
Recently two Kenyans living in London, Charles Ngengi (groom) and Daniel Chege Gichia, had a wedding under the Civil Partnership Act, which recognises a union of people of the same sex. This is a picture of the two
Kenyan's who became a couple in England.
There has been a lot of debate over the issue of the two Kenyan men in London.
“On several occasions some British MPs have approached us on the gay matter. They wanted us to include homosexual and lesbians’ rights in the draft. But we told them that such a thing cannot happen because if we did so, a majority of Kenyans will reject the draft during the forthcoming referendum,” said Mr Otiende Amolo, a member of the committee.
In Kenya the original constitution mentioned that "every adult has the right to found a family" this meant that gays and lesbians were allowed to marry. The government then changed the law to evey adult has the right to marry a person from the opposite sex this prevented gays and lesbians from getting married.
This is very disrespectful it shows that people consider homosexuality as bad as alcohol and prostitution.
I feel that we should allow same sex marriage, their lives do not affect us in anyway so why should we deny them the rights to get married. We should allow them to get married.
what do you think?
